Royal Lineage : Victorian Era Step Cut Amethyst Line Bracelet in 9ct Rose Gold circa 1880

$ 94.09

It was not that long ago that amethyst was counted amongst the most precious of gemstones. Amethysts were rare gems, found only in remote volcanic areas like the mountains of Russia. The intense purple colour of amethyst was associated with nobility and the clergy – in addition, the Ancient Greeks believed that amethyst had the power to prevent intoxication (and was therefore sacred to the god Dionysus). Truly a most marvellous of gemstones! Amethyst’s rarity changed dramatically in the 18th Century when large deposits were discovered in Brazil and Africa, although it remained popular throughout the Victorian Era for its regal appearance. This exquisite antique bracelet is formed by 12 square step cut amethysts in rose gold clawed bezels, linked together to form an unbroken circle. The box clasp is cleverly hidden inside one of the bezels. Manufacture  Modelled in 9ct rose gold, stamped 9ct to the box clasp. The gold fineness has been verified by XRF test. The twelve mid-purple amethysts have been verified as natural by an independent gemologist. Each stone is square step-cut, measuring approximately 9mm x 9mm. Each stone is set in an individual square bezel with six long claws. The bezels are joined by double loops of gold to create a slinky and sensuous glittering bracelet. The bracelet measures 17cm / 6.7″ long, 11mm wide. Weighs 21.89 grams. Condition  Excellent antique condition, no faults to note. Ready for immediate wear.
